Whirlwind of a Weekend
Hi Everyone!!
What a fun/busy/rewarding/tiring weekend we had!!
Saturday we joined the hospital in celebrating World Clubfoot Day. There were games, food, prizes, and tons of super cute kids everywhere!! The pictures speak for themselves.
Dan and Dr. Kieffer participated in a 15K!! At a high altitude no less. They finished 1st and 2nd....... among the Americans :) They also got to meet the ambassador from Denmark which was pretty cool.
After the Clubfoot Fun Day we had the opportunity to go visit Dr. Widmer's (our Calculus 3 and Linear Algebra Professor) wife's family. They invited us over for dinner and it was delicious!! Mrs. Widmer's niece's daughter was the cutest!! They were so generous and welcoming.
Sunday we went to a church which is just above the hospital. It is further up the hill, so you can imagine that we were tired and out of breath once we got there. The service and the message were beautiful. They sung the same songs that we would sing at home. The service lasted about 2 hours and included dancing from the choir!
After church, we got changed and headed to Lake Naivasha! We got to go boating, see a bunch of birds, a giraffe, a camel, and hippos! My favorite thing was getting to see the African Fish Eagle swoop down for a fish. We also got to see two of them fight for territory.
The President was getting ready to drive by some of the towns close by, so on our way home we got to see Kenyans lining the street waiting for his arrival. It is an election year for them so there has been a lot of political talk.
We are back at the house now after what seemed like a long weekend. Most of us have not been getting as much sleep as we are used to, so hopefully we will all turn in early tonight. Tomorrow the ROCK team begins their training regimen all over again with two new technicians, and the Clubfoot team heads back to the Clubfoot Clinic.
Here is the GoPro video for today! The audio is all of us singing and worshiping to kick off the Clubfoot Fun Day (courtesy of Tim). I am not sure how many of these I will make this coming work week given that it will be much of the same things as last week. I will be sure to at least write a blog post with some pictures though!!
